Wanganui

The area is rich in history covering the time the Wanganui settlement was
threatened by raiding panics from Taranaki during the Land Wars of the 1860's
to the years of growth which followed as bush was felled and rich farm land
developed.

Wanganui
Old Cemetery Heritage Trail
Also known as Heads Road Cemetery,
this is one of the oldest European cemeteries in New Zealand,
Wanganui being founded in 1840. Although officially closed,
burials still take place in family plots.
It is a comprehensive insight into the lives of some of Wanganui's founding
citizens.
