| Whanganui Riverboat Centre
|
 |
The Whanganui Riverboat Centre is a unique Maritime Heritage Museum. Housed in one of Wanganui’s finest heritage buildings, the museum is on the banks of the river it celebrates,
and only steps away from the
heart of Wanganui City.
The museum displays tell the
story of the riverboat era on the
Whanganui River. Visitors can
experience river travel, just as
our ancestors did, when aboard
P/S Waimarie, (est. 1900), New
Zealand’s last paddle steamer
still steam powered and coal
fired. Also sailing the river is the
motor vessel Wairua (est. 1904).
